Welcome to the website of Kumbaya Silken Windhounds. These pages contain photographs and information about our dogs and some other animals on our farm near Austin.
The Silken Windhound is an established breed of medium sized, coated sighthounds developed in the USA. They are similar to greyhounds, salukis, borzoi, whippets and other sighthounds. Almost every color and marking can be found in Silken Windhounds from almost all white to all black and everything in between. There are many types and colors of brindle, sable, spotted, self and Irish markings. Ideal size is around 20-23 inches (50-60 cm) tall at the shoulder and around 30-40 lbs (12-18 kg) in weight. Originally developed in the USA they can now be found throughout Europe, Canada, Mexico, Japan, New Zealand and other countries.
Silken Windhounds (or Silkens for short) are registered through the United Kennel Club (UKC) and the International Silken Windhound Society (ISWS). They can be seen participating in many activities such as conformation shows, lure coursing, straight racing, oval track racing, open field coursing, agility, rally and obedience events. There are also a good number of Silkens being used as therapy dogs.
These dogs are quite attractive and agile athletes, with gentle, non-aggressive temperaments.
Above all they make outstanding pets and companions.
We invite you to read more about Silken Windhounds and discover what wonderful dogs they are.
