Living the Dream
Life has a way of being a series of challenges. Depending on how you look at these challenges they become opportunities. For years we lived in the San Francisco/Oakland Bay area of Northern California. Life was exciting and very good although there were some ups and downs. After Jay completed his Masters Degree in Psychology and I was laid off from my career in IT project management we decided to make some big changes in our lives. We moved to Austin, Texas and purchased a small farm.
Both of us grew up in small town America and decided we wanted to return to those comfort years of our childhood taking care of animals and working outdoors. And because I have family in Texas we wanted to be closer for all those special family get togethers and share care of elderly parents.
While we still continue to work for corporations we have plans to become more self sustainable and live off the land as much as possible. We raise chickens for eggs and meat, suri alpacas and llamas for fiber, and dairy goats for milk to produce cheese, ice cream, yogurt, lotions and soaps. We are still learning what plants grow well in this climate but have started an herb garden for seasoning for cheeses, salads and for medicinal purposes. We also have a special place in our hearts for our dogs, Silken Windhounds, a breed of sighthound that originated in Austin. Please explore our web pages to learn more about Kumbaya Farm and some of our many projects.
Dream on until your dreams come true.
